President Donald Trump's top contenders for the vacancy appear to be federal appeals judges Amy Coney Barrett, Thomas Hardiman, Brett Kavanaugh and Raymond Kethledge.

Hardiman, 53, has served on the Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals since 2007, having been appointed by Republican former President George W. Bush, after four years as a U.S. district judge in western Pennsylvania.

Trump spoke to reporters Sunday afternoon before returning to Washington from a weekend at his private golf club in New Jersey, where he deliberated his decision amid furious lobbying and frenzied speculation.

The battle for Senate confirmation of Trump's Supreme Court pick is likely to be one of the most intense.

In remarks on ABC News' "This Week", Leonard Leo, who's on leave from the Federalist Society to aid Trump in selecting his replacement for retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, said "nobody really knows" about the fate of Roe v. Wade. He claimed that due to how dysfunctional the two parties were, it is unlikely that many Democrats would support a Trump nominee. At her recent confirmation hearing, however, she said it was never permissible for judges to "follow their personal convictions in deciding a case". With the expected absence of Republican senator John McCain due to brain cancer, Republicans only have 50 votes.

"Bob Casey was for Judge Hardiman before he was against him, showing yet again that Casey will oppose anything President Trump does, even if it means contradicting himself", Barletta said in a statement. The White House has been preparing information materials on all four, who were part of a longer list of 25 names vetted by conservative groups. Dick Durbin, said fighting Trump's choice is "about more than the next election" and conceded that it could affect the political future of red-state Democratic senators this fall.

'Ant-Man and the Wasp' marches to $76-million launch
It earned $ 29 million in its fourth weekend, bringing its domestic total to $504 million and its worldwide haul to $773 million. It's the first animated film to ever surpass $500 million at the North American box office, and the 12th film ever to do so.

"I'm open to voting yes. I don't think my role is a rubber stamp for the President, but it's also not an automatic, knee-jerk no either", Jones said.

Relishing the guessing game beyond the White House gates, Trump had little to say about his choice.

- The coming battle over a Supreme Court nominee promises to be a bruising one.

Any of the candidates on Trump's short list would probably move the court to the right.

By installing Gorsuch and another, similar candidate on the court, Trump can tell conservative voters that he kept his promises and give them a reason to solidify his electoral coalition. The selection has been described in the national media as monumental in cementing a conservative majority on the Supreme Court for a generation.

The president has also spoken with confidence about how his Supreme Court pick will work out.
