New Orleans Family Says Goodbye To Son In Unique Way

Boston Celtics Kyrie Irving drives past Minnesota Timberwolves Jimmy Butler during the second quarter of an NBA basketball in Boston Friday Jan. 5 2018

Renard Matthews died in a shooting June 25 near North Tonti and Independence streets.

Family members said they wanted people to remember him the way he always was.

18-year-old Renard Matthews was shot and killed two weeks ago in the Florida area of New Orleans.

Brazil's Neymar says World Cup defeat is 'saddest moment of my career'
The Chelsea star has been involved in 14 goals in his past 14 internationals, with eight goals and six assists. It's not compulsory for Neymar but you can understand why his failure to show his face isn't going down well.

While the tragedy of losing him so young weighs heavy on his family, they chose to have his body prepared for Sunday afternoon's wake in a way that they want to remember him, according to WGNO. But just how big of a fan was the New Orleans teen of the Boston Celtics star?

At his wake at the Charbonnet Labat Glapion funeral home in Treme, a very unconventional service was held.

Matthews' body was sat lounged back in a padded swivel chair, and he was dressed in his Boston Celtics vest. We get used to seeing each other occupy certain spaces so I think there's something strangely handsome about wanting to see Renard Matthews in that chair, controller in hand, one last time.
