Trump may quit North Atlantic Treaty Organisation 'unless Britain boosts defence'

U.S. Ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison says member states are "making progress" to increase defense spending at the urging of President Trump.

The protest on Saturday preceded the anti-NATO conference on Sunday, which will see dozens of activists and organizations from all over the word coming to Brussels, Iraklis Tsavdaridis, executive secretary of the World Peace Council (WPC), a self-described "anti-imperialist" global organization promoting diversity and universal disarmament, told RT. For this gathering not only threatens to be one of the most unpredictable in the alliance's history, but also, most extraordinarily, the source of unpredictability is now Nato's fundamental pillar: the United States, whose leader appears to question the very objective of this military pact.

"Trust me, we'll be just fine", Trump said. Roy Blunt (R-MO) cautioned that President Donald Trump should remember Russian President Vladimir Putin is not his friend. "I welcome the fact that Germany is significantly increasing its defence spending".

In June, he sent letters to several allies complaining they are not abiding by a 2014 commitment to spend 2 percent of their gross domestic product on national defense.

In recent weeks, Trump suggested withdrawing more than 25,000 USA troops stationed in South Korea after trying to persuade Kim to rid his country of nuclear weapons.

Kay Bailey Hutchison says North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members 'making progress' on increasing defense spending
Huntsman stressed the importance of going in to any meeting with Russian Federation "with eyes wide open". Now, questions have arisen over the fate of Crimea following Russia's annexation of the peninsula.

"We're paying anywhere from 70 to 90 percent to protect Europe", the president said.

The two ambassadors laid out a preliminary schedule for Trump's travels. With 29 member-states, the US-led military alliance in Europe tends to treat summits as periodic reaffirmations of collective marriage vows, carefully scripted events at which every single detail is predetermined, and all that North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders need to do is fly in, smile throughout, and then take up their pre-arranged places for the "family photograph" that concludes the proceedings. But when asked a second time, the official said Trump is not expected to threaten troop withdrawals in Germany or elsewhere.

"We will talk about the biggest increase in defence spending by our allies since the Cold War", she said.

"The deterrence has already been weakened".

"But this prerequisite is now undermined from within - by a couple of illiberal governments in the Alliance, and now even by the United States president".
