Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson for $10 million. What's not to love?

How Tiger Woods accidentally helped Bronson Burgoon qualify for the British Open Stan Badz PGA Tour

Mickelson told Golf.com that he hopes the match leads to more exhibitions between the two golfers.

Plans to stage the made-for-television event on July 3 in Las Vegas fell through, according to the report, but representatives for 14-time major champion Woods and five-time major victor Mickelson remain committed to making it happen.

While representatives for Tiger Woods did not comment on the story, Mickelson said on Thursday, "We're working on a different date". Apparently this was close enough to happening on July 3rd that Mickelson thought it was a done deal, but it fell through. Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson is reportedly in the works and has the golfing world buzzing.

Woods and Mickelson - two of the most famous golfers in American history - played a practice round with each other at the Masters in April. During play, the moments of trash talk in the middle, everything is magnified when a few dollars are on the table.

Mickelson was part of just one of those matches.

The final round of last weekend's Quicken Loans National (in which Woods but not Mickelson played) drew a 2.3 rating and 3.6 million viewers.

That's why, despite holding the UFC's light heavyweight championship, he moved up to challenge heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic . The heavyweight champ is listed as a -230 while Cormier is the +185 underdog. "I'm a two-division champion, baby".

It's unclear whether the players would stump up the money, or whether it would come from corporate sponsors, and whether it would go toward charities, but Mickelson added: "No matter how much money you have, this amount will take both of us out of our comfort zone".

This would be must-see TV for any golf fan.

The two best-golfing legends of our generation could hit the course to play a mano a mano winner-take-all match.

It took Mickelson 12 years to win his first major, but he didn't fall off like Woods. Mickelson finished in first place just four months ago at the WGC-Mexico Championship and has six top-10 finishes this year.

According to Shipnuck, the chilly relationship between the two legends began to defrost after Team USA's loss at the Ryder Cup in 2014, when Mickelson blasted US captain Tom Watson and the PGA of America.

"As we've developed a good relationship, we've started to collaborate on some other things that have allowed us to achieve things that we couldn't do on our own", Mickelson said.
