4-year-old with cerebral palsy celebrates after taking first independent steps

"People asked us, 'you're not crying in the video; why aren't you crying.' Our eyes were like saucers", she said.

The Michigan girl traveled to St. Louis in March to undergo selective dorsal rhizotomy, which doctors predicted would allow her to walk independently for the first time after undergoing extensive physical therapy.

With tear-jerking levels of excitement and happiness, she then turns to her brother and says, "Look, I'm walking!".

Maya Tisdale was born as a micro preemie weighing only 1 pound back in 2013.

Maya's mother, Ann Tisdale, posted a video of the milestone to social media on Sunday. But two-months later, Maya took her first steps.

Before she turned 2 years old, however, Maya was diagnosed with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy.

She was finally able to take a few steps on her own and she described her accomplishment in just two words when she said, "I'm walking".

Australia vs Pakistan, Tri-series Final
In response, Pakistan got off to the worst possible start as they lost two wickets in the opening over bowled by Glenn Maxwell . For Pakistan Mohammad Amir picked up three wickets while Shadab Khan claimed two wickets.

"I even did a big step".

Maya previously walked with support.

Maya's family stated that the procedure would reduce Maya's spasticity permanently and give Maya to live without much pain.

"I'm walking, you guys, without my canes".

On May 9, 2018, Maya traveled from her home in MI to St. Louis, Missouri, to have selective dorsal rhizotomy surgery. "She's just kind of blowing it out of the water".

While she celebrated this joyous moment for her daughter, Tisdale said Maya had a "long road of learning" ahead of her. Maya had to spend 26 weeks at the ICU but her fighting spirit earned her the nickname "Mighty Miss Maya" from her family members and friends.

"Maya still has CP (cerebral palsy)".
