Joey Chestnut scarfs down 74 hot dogs to win 11th title

Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest victor Miki Sudo in 2017.

The Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest has been held annually since 1916, and we're sure it will continue for at least another century, especially with Chestnut in his prime.

In 2001, Kobayashi ate 50 hot dogs and buns - doubling the previous record. Seconds after Chestnut's interview finished, ESPN2 switched over to cornhole, leaving everyone involved on the edge of their seats wondering whether Chestnut had indeed eaten 74, as he claimed, or 64, as the unofficial count said. He continued to stretch the lead down the stretch, though at a slower pace, finishing with 74 hot dogs, a dominant, 11-hot-dog-and-bun margin over second-place finisher Carmen Cincotti.

In the women's competition, Miki Sudo, 32, defended her title, the fifth year in a row, chomping down 37 hot dogs and buns.

MORE: How Does Nathan's Famous Hot Dog-Eating Contest Actually Work? And, if you put yourself in Chestnut's shoes, if you care enough to eat 74 hot dogs in 10 minutes, you definitely want the world to know how many dogs you actually ate.

Thousands of attendees, many donning mustard-coloured hot dog caps, braved 28 degree Celsius temperatures to witness the annual July Fourth competition on the Coney Island boardwalk.

Dozens missing after tourist boat capsizes off Thailand
Strong winds are still blowing as rescuers look for the missing in the Andaman Sea off the tourist island of Phuket . Most of the passengers onboard the yacht have been rescued but two are still missing, the department said.

Chestnut, 34, managed to break his world record of 73 hot dogs, set in 2016.

It is a first time in the 102-year-old competition that a mother and daughter will be lining up at the same table, a spokeswoman for event organizer Major League Eating said.

Joey Chestnut beat his own record-although it didn't look like it at first.

"I feel like I can do it".

'I didn't let the heat bother me or the humidity, ' Chestnut said after his win, reports The Mercury News.

Fans took to social media networks to share their congratulations and praise to Joey Chestnut who has solidified his status as a competitive eating celebrity. Last year, he almost equaled that mark with 72 dogs. Even the 91-degree heatwave couldn't stop these men from gobbling down the buns and meat in record time.
