Samsung phones reportedly sending photos to contacts without permission

Samsung users in the United States are reporting that their phones are sending text messages with attachments from their photo gallery to random contacts without explicit permission. Samsung users have reported about the problem on the company's official forums, on Reddit, etc. How many people received private photos, without alerting the owner, is unknown. One user said that his Galaxy smartphone sent ALL of his photos to his girlfriend.

A Samsung spokesperson says the company is looking into the issue but claims they have not found it to be a software or hardware problem.

Only users who updated to the latest version appear to be affected, according to users who discovered and reported the issue on the /r/GalaxyNote8 subreddit.

If you have a Samsung phone this would seem to be relevant information for you.

Concerned users should ensure that Samsung Message does not have permission to access their phone's storage, which will prevent it from being able to send anything on the phone.

Aaron Finch batting onslaught helps break Williamson, Guptill T20 world record
Four overs later, his 15th four took Australia's score to 200, and he then moved beyond 150 with a swipe to deep midwicket. Australia take on Pakistan on Thursday, and Finch insisted there was no room for complacency.

Over on Samsung's forum, a Galaxy S9 user this week complained that Samsung Messages "has become VERY BUGGY" since T-Mobile started rolling out RCS support. "However, there was record of it [in my] T-Mobile logs". I mean, a few beach photos randomly sent to your boss at 3:00 a.m.is one thing, but we all know it could be so much worse. A Reddit user expressed their concern by saying "This sounds like a nightmare for me as I have lots and lots of clients in my phone".

T-Mobile, one of the carriers that have implemented RCS, says "It's not a T-Mobile issue", and is referring users back to Samsung.

The messages are being sent through Samsung's default texting app Samsung Messages.

Samsung tells CNET it's actively looking into the matter, but it's not yet clear why this is happening or how widespread it might be - particularly if it's true that these pictures are being sent without leaving any record.
