Chinese "laser rifle" sounds a bit too sci-fi to be true

Guns that can set targets on fire? It used to be the realm of Star Wars-esque science fiction

"It is not designed explicitly for killing like a gun that uses bullets and can not cause the "instant carbonization" of human skin and tissues".

A research that worked on the super-powered ZKZM-500 rifle said that "the pain will be beyond endurance" and that it will be "non-lethal" as it doesn't kill on impact.

China has developed a prototype laser assault rifle that can incinerate a target about a half-mile away, according to the South China Morning Post.

According to the article, the ZKZM-500 Laser Assault Rifle, weighing around three kilos, very similar to an AK-47, with a range of up to 800 meters, could be used mounted in cars, aircraft, boats, or by police and military personnel.

It is able to fire more than 1,000 "shots" with each one lasting a maximum of two seconds.

Last month, the USA government lodged a formal complaint that a "weapons-grade" laser device fired from a Chinese base in Djibouti had left two pilots with minor eye injuries.

Several Americans spent Canada Day apologizing to Canadians for Trump
Do you know what happened? "I don't see how (Trudeau) is going to get this done", he said. Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said the tariffs are regrettable.

It fires an energy beam which is not visible to the naked eye but can cause "instant carbonisation" of human skin and tissues. However, a researcher who was involved in the weapon's development but refused to be named said that if targets are wearing flammable clothing, the weapon can set them to fire, burning their entire bodies.

The prototype was reportedly made by ZKZM Laser, an arm of the Xian Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics.

If that wasn't scary enough the lasers themselves are silent, and invisible, and they can pass through glass windows as well. "It will look like an accident", the source said.

It is said to be ready for mass production for China's military and police only, but maker ZKZM Laser hasn't found a licensed partner yet. Because the gun fires lasers instead of bullets, it means targets can be "shot" through windows without breaking the glass.

Erin VanDyke lives on her family farm and has more than 35 years of hands-on experience with the use of livestock guard dogs for predator control.

Since there is a lot of potential for the weapon to fall into wrong hands, the production of the firearm will be strictly monitored and it will only be provided to the Chinese military and police.
