Not Good: Samsung Phones Texting Photos to Random People

One user complains of scheduled texts appearing in wrong threads or being sent prematurely, while others say their phones spontaneously sent other people random photos, or, in a few instances, the entire contents of their photo galleries. Is T-Mobile your carrier? So for Samsung Galaxy users, this means that the best way to now get around the bug is to avoid Samsung Messages entirely or revoke its permission to access your photo gallery. What's even worse is that the app reportedly leaves no evidence of photos being sent, which means users won't know when their phone may have unwittingly sent sensitive photos to a friend or co-worker until some time has passed.

So far, some of the affected users have pointed fingers to a recent T-Mobile update that including advanced texting features, like read receipts and an indicator that shows when the contact you're messaging is typing. Since several accounts said photos had been randomly sent to partners or family members, there is also speculation that the problem affects shared plans.

The Verge talked to a Samsung spokesperson who said they are "aware of the reports" and that their technical teams are "looking into it".

Maryland shooting: U.S. police had been warned about shooter
Altomare said the suspect used a pump-action shotgun that was legally purchased about a year ago to carry out the targeted attack. Witnesses said the gunman shot through a glass door and then began shooting at employees in the newsroom using a long shotgun.

The issue isn't specific to one mobile carrier alone, and users from different operators reported the same problem.

If you're using Samsung's Messages software, and are anxious about unapproved picture texts, find the application in the apps section of your device's settings, then go into its permissions, and disable access to storage. "Concerned customers are encouraged to contact us directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG". This may be a pain, however, because it means if you do want to send photos or files through the app, you need to restore permission in settings again. The seemingly misbehaving app is the default messaging tool on Samsung's Android devices.
