DeAndre Jordan opts out of deal with Clippers

DeAndre Jordan Marcin Gortat

After it initially seemed as if center DeAndre Jordan would exercise his contract option for $24.1 million with the Los Angeles Clippers, the 29-year-old center has chosen to become a free agent. Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, and now Jordan are all now in different cities, while in Dallas, the team is preparing for their post -irk Nowitzki reality.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Mavs are actively in trade talks with the Los Angeles Clippers in an effort to land Jordan this week before free agency begins on July 1.

Last season with the Clippers, Jordan averaged 12.0 points and a career-high 15.2 rebounds as the Clips finished with a 42-40 record for the year.

That could be a good sign that the Mavericks feel good about their position with Jordan.

The Dallas Mavericks declined forward Dirk Nowitzki's option for 2018-19 on Friday but plan to re-sign the 20-year veteran, according to multiple reports.

Germany Fails To Advance Out Of Group Stage For First Time
German defender Mats Hummels said after the match, "It's very very hard to put it into words". "We believed until the end today. The win also kept South Korea from joining the list of Asian Football Confederation ( AFC ) members without a victory.

Now Jordan is free to join the Mavericks or any other team as a free agent. Last season, the Clippers had Jordan, Montrezl Harrell and Boban Marjanovic in their center rotation.

The Houston native changed his mind, and the saga played out on social media the day before Jordan could sign.

Whatever proposal Jordan's agent, Jeff Schwartz, develops with the Mavericks, the Clippers aren't sure if it would benefit them to do a sign-and-trade deal, said the executives.

Jordan will fill a big need for the Mavericks.

If Ryan Spalding, Kostas Antetokounmpo or Duop Reath get pushed up from the Summer League roster, Jordan can mentor the young forwards as the develop their game in the National Basketball Association.
