Pharmacist denies woman miscarriage drug on moral grounds

A Peoria woman is going public after she says a Walgreens pharmacist denied her a medication to end a pregnancy

Most people were deeply outraged by what Arteaga went through.

She told BuzzFeed News that she was 9-weeks pregnant and her baby did not have a heartbeat.

When Nicole Arteaga discovered she had lost her baby in a miscarriage, she wanted to put the experience behind her as quickly as possible.

An Arizona woman is putting a public spotlight on a Walgreen's pharmacist who she says wouldn't give her a prescription to end her pregnancy.

Instead, Arteaga was turned away, without the medicine she needed.

An Arizona woman said a pharmacist refused to give her a miscarriage prescription, citing his "moral objection".

"I completely lost it and was in tears".

The day before, she learned her pregnancy would end in a miscarriage.

"I didn't want to need those pills", Arteaga said. But what he failed to understand is, this isn't the situation I had hoped for - this isn't something I wanted.

Kam Gandhi, the executive director of the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy, told the AP that the state's "conscience clause" law needs to be clarified.

"He had it in his hand and refrained from giving it to me", Arteaga explained.

"My son, seeing me get so upset and he's trying to figure out why are you crying, once I couldn't hold it in anymore", she said. "I couldn't believe what was happening". "He has no idea what it's like to want nothing more than to carry a child to full term and be unable to do so". "He didn't seem to care what we were going through already".

Spain top group after thrilling finale
The result means Spain will now face host Russian Federation in the round of 16 on Sunday. Morocco played with heart and were brilliant on counters as well as resolute on the back.

In Arizona, pharmacists can step away from filling prescriptions or contraceptive supplies based on their moral or religious beliefs.

The statement also said that company was "looking into" the incident Arteaga described and that they reached out to her "and apologized for how the situation was handled".

The store's Facebook page has been inundated with complaints following Ms Arteaga's claims.

The manager did not offer an apology at the time, she said.

Eight states - California, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, Washington and Wisconsin - have laws requiring pharmacists to provide medication to patients.

Pharmacists are not legally obligated to refer customers to another pharmacy, but companies such as Walgreens have adopted individual policies for employees.

But, according to the National Women's Law Center, the pharmacist was within his rights.

Walgreens' policy lines up with an Arizona state law that similarly allows a pharmacy, hospital or health professional not to participate in providing abortion medication, emergency contraception or any medication or device that would prevent fertilization. "At the same time, they are also required to refer the prescription to another pharmacist or manager on duty to meet the patient's needs in a timely manner".

Nicole Arteaga left a one-star Yelp review on the Walgreens page. On Monday, the company was tweeting replies to individuals who were outraged by the mother's post. "I can't be the only one who has gone thru this". She said she collected it after first revisiting her doctor to ensure he could help her fill the script.

On Saturday, Arteaga added an update to her original Facebook post.

"I experienced something no woman should ever have to", she wrote.

Reactions on social media were swift. Others shared their own stories of being denied access to similar drugs. According to her, Walgreens didn't reach out to her. Arteaga said she reached out to them.
