Vinnie Paul, Legendary Pantera Drummer, Dead at 54

Drummer Vinnie Paul, co-founding drummer of the revered Texas metal band Pantera, has died.

As fans will know too well, Vinnie's passing follows the tragic 2004 assassination of his brother and Pantera co-founder, Dimebag Darrell Abbott.

Paul, who was 54, was also known for his work as a drummer for the metal band Hellyeah.

"The family requests you please respect their privacy during this time", the band said.

His representatives confirmed the legendary drummer's death to Billboard.

Going forward, the band's popularity began to soar, leading to a series of platinum albums, including 1992's Vulgar Display of Power and 1994's Far Beyond Drive, the latter of which went No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album charts. The band was nominated for four Grammys and sold over nine million albums before they disbanded in 2003.

They went on hiatus in 2001 and formally disbanded in 2003.

Paul was born in March 11, 1964 in Abilene, Texas. On December 8th that year, while on tour supporting the record, Darrell was shot dead onstage at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Abilene Texas, Paul now drummed for the supergroup Hellyeah, which included Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray and Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell.
