Russia warns against Trump's 'alarming' plans for US space domination

President Donald Trump is announcing that he is directing the Pentagon to create the "Space Force" as an independent service branch.

He said when it comes to defending America, "it is not enough to merely have an American presence in space".

Trump on Monday said at a speech in the White House that "America will always be the first in space" and "we don't want China and Russian Federation and other countries leading us".

During the announcement, Trump mentioned that the space program was an issue of national security, and that he didn't want other countries dominating what he has previously considered to be a new, potential battleground.

The meeting also saw Trump sign his administration's third Space Policy Directive, which primarily focuses on managing and monitoring the increasing numbers of satellites in low-Earth orbit and mitigating debris in space.

Others question whether a Space Force would increase Pentagon spending and accelerate the militarization of space. Trump has suggested that he would like to set up the Space Force in response to activities by Russian Federation and China in space. "Just go ahead. If you beat us to Mars, we'll be very happy and you'll be even more famous".

Crude prices to become cheaper or dearer? Opec to decide today
Iran has objected to having members with additional capacity such as Saudi Arabia fill Venezuelan output gaps. The market is contending with exactly how much output will change.

Trump also promised that will soon return to the United States on the moon and will reach Mars, - stated in the message.

While details are slim, the Space Force would be tasked with overseeing the next war-fighting domain of space, as the other branches of the military do with their respective domains.

While the USA was the first country to develop anti-satellite technology, back in the Kennedy era, much of this technology has fallen by the wayside, given an assumed dominance of space, said Brian Weeden, Technical Adviser for the Secure World Foundation, which promotes cooperative solutions for space sustainability and the peaceful uses of outer space.

According to its website, the AFSPC was founded in 1982, and its mission is "to provide resilient and affordable space and cyberspace capabilities for the Joint Force and the Nation". "We are urging Washington to display common sense and avoid repeating mistakes made in the past". The creation of a new section would require congressional approval and a lengthy bureaucratic process.

Trump, however, appears unconcerned about the treaty requirements, which prohibit sending weapons of mass destruction into space.

"What's next, we move submarines to the 7th branch and call it the "'under-the-sea force?'"
