PM on International Yoga Day

India gears up to celebrate 4th International Yoga Day

Enthusiastic Delhiites turned up in large numbers at Rajpath, various parks and public squares across the city today to perform asanas to mark the fourth International Yoga Day. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. Okay. Let's not overwork our already stressed out brains- it's International Yoga Day. The event made it to the Guinness World Records with 35,985 participants of 84 nationalities performing asanas at one venue. Every year, around 200,000 yoga teachers are trained in China, which shows how popular yoga is and the demand for teachers, because many people realise how yoga can help them, she said.

Modi stated: 'Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition.

Addressing the gathering at the Forest Research Institute (FRI), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Yoga has emerged as the biggest unifying force in the world".

Sudhir Shetty, President of UAE Exchange and the Indian Business & Professional Group (IBPG) called it a significant event because it encourages people to remain healthy mentally & physically. Its founder Yin Yan said the annual event had become an opportunity for schools to bring students together. "As one of the key stakeholders in the socio-economic fabric of UAE, the leading organizations like Lulu Group, NMC Group, IBPG, etc have come together to sponsor this event, which now attracts nearly all the diverse nationalities residing in UAE", he said. A year ago he participated at an event at the Ramabai Ambedkar Sabha Sthal in Lucknow.

The theme for International Yoga Day 2018 is Yoga for Peace. "Yoga trains us to systematically sharpen and sensitise our emotions and consciously expand and diffuse the overtones of such sensitisation", she said.

After brief wait, Beyoncé, Jay-Z take album to Spotify
As the pair ended their show at the London Stadium, a huge sign flashed up on screens around the venue, saying "Album Out Now". Beyoncé and Jay-Z dropped a surprise joint album entitled " Everything is Love " on Saturday afternoon.

However in its present-day use, yoga is often no more than a form of exercise, Michael says. "It unites individuals, families, society, country and the world", he said. Modi said India should be proud to be the "guardians of the great practice".

Rola al-Ghoul, a Jordanian yoga instructor, shared the story behind her introduction to yoga, which happened in 2014 as treatment for a lower back injury.

Two years ago, the influential Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee, which is a conglomerate of 15 major churches, had boycotted the celebration saying yoga is "dipped in Hinduism". It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. "All of these benefits inspired me to become a yoga instructor with the hope to share these benefits with more people", says Rola.

This philosopher-monk stressed yoga's rational and scientific qualities in a bid to make the discipline compatible with the West.
