United States promises to be very different World Cup host from 1994

Switzerland's Steven Zuber celebrates after scoring his side's opening goal during the group E match between Brazil and Switzerland at the 2018 soccer World Cup in the Rostov Arena in Rostov-on-Don Russia Sunday

While the 2018 FIFA World Cup kicks off Thursday in Russian Federation, soccer fans from the United States, Canada and Mexico are already anticipating what will occur eight years from now.

Italy beat France in penalties to win their fourth World Cup title. I personally would like to see 1 of 3 teams win.

Trudeau told reporters in Ottawa: "It's an opportunity to bring the world together and highlight how well things work between Canada, Mexico and the United States".

A battle of the last two World Cup winners.

The first victor of a World Cup Golden Ball award, Rossi was given the prize after Italy added the third star to their crest.

Former NBA executive Philippe Moggio, now the general secretary of CONCACAF, the regional soccer confederation that includes the U.S, Mexico and Canada as well as Central American and Caribbean nations, believes Wednesday's decision will lead to a massive boost for the game in the U.S.

Uruguay had a great tournament in the first World Cup to be played in Africa. He noted more has to happen before the Alberta capital makes the cut of host cities by 2020. Canada has never hosted a men's World Cup but held the women's tournament in 2015.

Republicans in Congress see warning in Mark Sanford's primary loss
Those apostasies came back to haunt Sanford, even though Arrington was also a vocal Trump critic during the 2016 GOP primary. This story has been corrected to reflect that Sanford completed his second term as SC governor and did not resign.

With the breakdown of voting results made public, the United bid claimed 134 votes, with 64 giving their support to Morocco and one country voting for neither bid. "I think that the announcement that it will be in North America, in the United States, in 2026 is maybe a consolation prize".

The cases of Saudi Arabian referee Fahad Al Mirdasi and Kenyan assistant Aden Range Marwa "surprised us a lot", he said.

"We are confident that the USA, Canada and Mexico will put on a fantastic event and we look forward to the tournament in 2026".

"We have a tremendous history of not only sports but in particular soccer", he said. One FIFA Congress member voted for "neither bid".

The North America bid also had to overcome concerns about the impact of policies from the Trump administration, including attempts to implement a ban on travel by residents of six majority-Muslim countries.

Hawsawi said a good start to the tournament was vital if the Saudis were to match the feat of the 1994 Falcons, who reached the round of 16 in the United States. FIFA, the world governing body of soccer, now takes over the tournament, working with the three countries.
