Almost 2000 migrant children separated from their families at US-Mexico border

He said that he hated to see the separation of children and their parents trying to enter the country illegally or through the use of loopholes in the asylum laws.

President Donald Trump repeated a false claim in a tweet Saturday that blames Democrats for the policy of separating immigrant parents from their children upon crossing the southern border between the U.S. and Mexico.

And the president signalled the drama could drag on.

"The Democrats forced that law upon our nation", he said during an impromptu press conference outside the White House.

The Trump administration argues that the Flores settlement means children must be separated from their parents because they can not be held in custody with their parents who face prosecution for crossing the border illegally.

A Department of Homeland Security official insisted that the minors were enjoying decent conditions.

"We are fixing family separation within this bill and have made changes to keep children with at least one of their parents", he said.

The children are put into the care of the US Department of Health and Human Services, and some are transferred to government facilities or foster care during the separation. "Stop crossing the border illegally with your children", Sessions said in a speech on Thursday.

The small shelter along the Texas border to Mexico held 60 beds and a little playground where children could play.

Meanwhile, congressional Republicans have struggled to craft a viable immigration plan.

Evangelical leader Franklin Graham, son of "America's pastor" Billy Graham and a prominent Trump supporter, told the Christian Broadcasting Network on Tuesday, "It's disgraceful, and it's bad to see families ripped apart and I don't support that one bit".

Trump's opposition would deal a body blow to efforts to tamp down the border crisis, which has raised alarm among evangelical leaders who backed Trump's campaign.

United States, Canada and Mexico to jointly host 2026 World Cup
Both the United States and Canada failed to qualify for this year's World Cup. The North American bid received 134 FIFA Congress votes to Morocco's 65.

President Donald Trump repeated a false claim that Democrats are behind his administration's "zero-tolerance" policy that separates families at the US-Mexico border.

On Friday, President Trump joined the critics, with a familiar caveat.

But despite his calls for lawmakers to work together on immigration, Trump seemed to pour cold water on current attempts to draw up a centrist immigration bill.

The Trump administration has said it is simply enforcing the law, and has blamed Democrats, an explanation that Democrats have rejected.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi was a lot more harsh in her assessment.

Trump stressed he opposes the separations. "Even the younger children were taken from their parents", Garcia said.

"The agencies were surfacing every possible idea", Cecilia Munoz, Obama's top domestic policy adviser, recalled, including whether to separate parents from their children.

'He's going to take children- even babies - away from their parents who won't know where they are or when or if they will see them again.

The DHS official also rejected as "not true" various reports of wrongdoing, including the turning away of some asylum-seekers.

Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar recently apologised to the sons and daughters of Magdalene Laundry mothers forcibly removed and handed over for illegal adoption between 1946 and 1969; and right now the British government is facing demands for an apology and a public inquiry into children removed in similar circumstances in the UK.

The Department Homeland Security says 1,995 minors were separated from their "alleged adult guardians" at the southern border in just over a month-long period.
