Rebel Wilson has Australian defamation payout slashed

Rebel Wilson after a jury of six returned unanimous verdicts in her favour following the defamation trial

Wilson was awarded $4.5 million in damages last September, after a jury found Bauer Media had defamed her in a series of magazine articles that said she had lied about her age, real name and childhood.

However the media company took to the Court of Appeal and had a major victory on Thursday, with the payout slashed by a whopping $3.9 million.

According to Buzzfeed, the judge denied Wilson "special damages" stating she had not proven that the defamation cost her work.

Wilson claimed she lost film roles as a result of the articles and she was awarded the largest defamation payout in Australian legal history.

Wilson is overseas at the moment, so she has yet to comment on today's decision.

It also reduced Wilson's non-economic losses by 50,000 Australian dollars to 600,000 Australian dollars.

The Hollywood star has been left with an award of $600, ooo for general damages only after her claim for special damages was rejected by three judges of the appeals court.

Irish PM says European Union needs decisions from United Kingdom , not internal debate
Dominic Grieve , arch-Remainer and leading rebel, has tabled his own amendment which is a compromise on the meaningful vote one. Pro-Brexit politicians argue that staying in an EU customs union would limit Britain's freedom to trade with other countries.

Wilson's lawyers had argued she missed out on film roles between mid-2015 and the end of 2016 due to the "grapevine effect" the articles had within the film industry.

In other post, she wrote: 'The Court of Appeal in Australia will be handing down their decision in the morning re my defamation case against As I've said before, I have already WON the case and this is UNCHALLENGED!'

Wilson, 38, is in Europe filming and was not in court.

But Bauer Media successfully challenged that finding in the Court of Appeal in Melbourne.

"It followed that the judge's award of damages for economic loss had to be set aside... there was no basis in the evidence for making any award of damages for economic loss".

Going into the appeal, Wilson stood firm in her fight against Bauer Media. And that while it's not about the money, she'd like to cop as much as possible so she can donate it all to charity and the Aussie film industry.
