World Cup Coming To North America, But Chicago Won’t Host Games

FIFA World Cup

The 2026 World Cup will look a whole lot different from previous iterations of the tournament, thanks to the fact that it will be hosted by three countries - the United States, Mexico and Canada - and expanded to 48 teams for the first time.

The majority of the 80 matches in the North American bid would be played in the United States, who hosted the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

Edmonton is part of the winning bid to host the men's 2026 FIFA World Cup but getting teams on the actual turf at Commonwealth Stadium is not a guarantee. The last time Federation Internationale de Football Association voted on World Cup hosting rights was in 2010, the decision rested with the former executive committee which chose Russia to host the 2018 finals and Qatar for 2022.

Usually referred to as just the World Cup, the tournament is the biggest sporting competition on the planet. "So how were his players" preparations a day before the World Cup starts?

That's just one of 12 stadiums that teams from 32 countries will be playing at during the World Cup. In short, it means games will potentially be played locally (as was the case when the USA hosted in 1994). Most national teams prefer to establish their pre-World Cup training compounds away from their first-round group-game cities.

In its bid proposal to FIFA, United 2026 listed Wellesley College, the Nobles and Greenough School, Harvard University, and the Revolution's practice field as viable training facilities for worldwide teams staying in the Boston area.

N Korea nuclear disarmament by 2020
He said he was confident Pyongyang understood the need for verification that it was dismantling its nuclear programme. Almost an hour later, noted the "fortune" the USA will save as a result of his commitment to end U.S.

"England has fantastic infrastructure, experience and everything else so we, as much as we are trying to be neutral now, we will certainly not be neutral if anyone from Europe bids", he said.

It marks the first time the World Cup will be held in more than one country since 2002, when South Korea and Japan shared hosting duties.

"I would say about 10 days ago we had a sense this was breaking our way", Cordeiro told reporters on a conference call following Wednesday's vote.

To prepare for the 2015 Women's World Cup, the stadium got new locker rooms, which are now used by visiting CFL teams, Jevne said. "Our cities are ready to host today".

"Moreover, this event will potentially provide Canadian athletes the opportunity to play on home soil, allow Canada's soccer communities to grow and inspire our next generation of athletes". The intercontinental playoff will be held somewhere in the United States, Canada or Mexico, perhaps in November 2025.

The United Bid was endorsed by David Beckham and there will be 16 host cities across North America with the U.S. holding ten of the 16, while Mexico and Canada will have three each.
