Three Saudi civilians killed by Houthi-launched missile in Jazan

Omani Researcher Saudi War on Yemen three times worse than Holocaust

He accused the Houthis of seeking to destabilize Saudi Arabia and threaten regional and worldwide security, stating that firing ballistic missiles at residential areas was a violation of global Humanitarian Law.

U.N. Yemen envoy Martin Griffiths has urged the Houthis to hand over Hodeidah to U.N. control, Reuters reported on Sunday.

Russian U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia, the current council president, said discussions centered on "the need for de-escalation".

His efforts to convince the rebels to hand over control of Al Hodeidah to UN-supervised worldwide forces had failed, according to reports.

The U.N. considers Yemen to be the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with more than 22.2 million people in need of assistance.

The ongoing violence has devastated Yemen's infrastructure, including water and sanitation systems, prompting the United Nations to describe the situation as one of "the worst humanitarian disasters in modern times".

For the past two weeks, Yemen government troops backed by the coalition have been closing in on Hodeida, which they claim is being used by Huthi rebels to smuggle weapons.

Yemeni security officials say gunmen shot dead a pro-government army colonel in the southwestern city of Taiz. The United States is also providing support to the coalition, including air-to-air refuelling and intelligence sharing.

Around 70 per cent of Yemen's imports, including the vast majority of its food, comes through Hodeidah and the port is described as the country's "lifeline".

Griffiths is set to present a new peace plan for Yemen on Monday, but he has warned that military action could derail that effort.

The UN and aid agencies have pleaded with the Saudi-led force against an attack on Hodeida, warning that it could lead to mass civilian casualties and starvation.

The three-year stalemated war has killed more than 10,000 people and displaced more than three million.

Yemeni government forces have advanced to within nine kilometers (six miles) of Hodeida, the Saudi-led military coalition said last week.
