White House adviser apologizes for slamming Justin Trudeau

President Donald Trump has repeatedly complained in recent days about Canadian tariffs on dairy products

At the summit's conclusion on Saturday, Trudeau reiterated that Ottawa was prepared to retaliate against the new tariffs if the United States did not back down, and said Canadians "would not be pushed around".

One of U.S. President Donald Trump's trade advisers says it was a "mistake" for him to say Prime Minister Justin Trudeau deserved to go to hell for retaliating against Mr. Trump's steel and aluminum tariffs.

"Let me correct a mistake I made", Mr Navarro said at a Wall Street Journal conference.

"My mission was to send a strong signal of strength", he said, according to the Journal.

"I don't care who you are talking about, unless you are on the verge of some kind of military engagement or something, I don't think that's language that anyone would use with any friends at the bar", he said.

Peter Navarro says his job was to send a "signal of strength" after Trudeau's post-G7 news conference sent the US president into a fit of pique that threw the summit into disarray. He blamed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's statement afterward that Canada would not be "pushed around".

Trump not inviting NBA champions to White House
Championship players have in recent years snubbed both Trump and President Barack Obama by declining White House invitations. But the determination comes as top White House officials continue to insist publicly that Mr.

"I think we should be taking (Trump's) threat at face value and prepare for an attempt to issue tariffs", said Flavio Volpe, president of the Automotive Parts Manufacturer's Association. While Trudeau has a wide range of counter-strike options available, Canada remains vulnerable to a trade war. "We just shook hands!'" Trump said Tuesday. He was asked why he was jeopardizing relations with long-standing allies like Canada while welcoming a historical USA enemy with open arms as a friend.

Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr said Canada has worked hard for decades to establish good relations with the USA and "we have no interest in turning up the heat".

Later during the show, Smith further said Trump's latest attitude towards Trudeau isn't a new thing and he has "been kicking allies in the teeth his whole presidency".

"I'm not sure what activity he's asking me to undertake with either", May said amid laughter.

President Trump responded with a tweet calling Trudeau "very dishonest and weak" and followed up by saying the U.S. would not endorse the G7 communique, a document signed by the seven leaders underlining their commitment to free and open trade.

The NAFTA talks have stalled since Trump last month imposed 25 per cent tariffs on steel from Canada, Mexico and the European Union, and 10 per cent tariffs on aluminum. The country has rallied together, with public opinion polling showing there's wide support for Canada's retaliatory tariffs against the steel and aluminum duties that will kick in for some US goods on July 1. "We look forward to looking at the details of the agreement".
