Democratic House race in Virginia highlights primary voting in five states

Primaries on tap for Tuesday

Five of these eight states-Pennsylvania, Florida, Minnesota, Ohio, and Michigan-were battleground states in 2016 (though Democrats and the mainstream media did not realize Minnesota was a battleground state until election day, when Hillary Clinton squeaked to a narrow victory there).

Similarly Rep. Barbara Comstock of the 10th congressional district in the Washington suburbs, often depicted as a GOP moderate, faces fierce primary opposition from a right-wing underdog named Shak Hill. But the 10 also heavily favored Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, voting for the Democrat by almost 10 points. Many political analysts rate the race a tossup.

Two other congressional races in Virginia will also be closely watched.

Unlike the General Election in November, where the victor represents their district in the Virginia General Assembly or U.S. Congress, the victor of Tuesday's primary election only becomes their party's representative in the upcoming general election. Luria owns Mermaid Factory in Norfolk and served in the Navy for 20 years.

Democrats have already nominated Leslie Cockburn at a party convention in the fifth district, which leans Republican but is losing incumbent GOP Representative Tom Garrett, who cited a drinking problem in his decision not to run again. Shion Fenty is pushing for education reform and less government involvement. At the time, Brat was a little-known economics professor at Randolph-Macon College, a small liberal arts school north of Richmond.

Also campaigning are Libertarian Joe Walton and Helen Alli.

One of those women, Helen Alli, has switched to running with the Whig Party.

Democrats' hopes for picking up a seat are highest in the 10th District, which stretches from the wealthy northern Virginia suburbs of McLean inside the Capital Beltway was through Loudoun County and out to Winchester.

Stoke City sign Super Eagles midfielder, Etebo
The Super Eagle joined Feirense from Warri Wolves in 2016 and made 45 league appearances with seven goals to his name. Rowett added: "We're really excited to have got the deal over the line for Etebo".

Heller narrowly won his seat in 2012 against Democrat Shelley Berkley, who was hampered by ethics questions.

Sanford is one of several Republican candidates in 2018 who have faced criticism from the right for speaking out against Trump.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., does not have a primary challenger, and Sen. Jennifer Wexton, the only elected official on the Democratic ballot.

But Alison Friedman, an activist on human trafficking issues, has raised the most money and was first on the air with television ads. Vying to defeat her in November are four Democrats who are facing off Tuesday - state Sen.

The Real Clear Politics Average of Polls now shows the Democrats with a 7.6 point generic ballot advantage, barely above the five point generic ballot advantage most political analysts say Democrats need to break even, due to Republican success in state legislatures gerrymandering Congressional Districts after the 2010 census.

Seeking to capitalize on the anti-Trump fervor that helped Democrats sweep key races in Virginia in 2017, the candidates competing in this district include an infectious disease scientist, a state senator, an Army veteran and Rhodes Scholar, and several former Obama administration officials.

Of the four, Volosin has raised the most money - almost $43,000, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.

A Democrat running for an open state Assembly seat is refusing to let the public view her old tweets ripping conservatives.
