Trade dispute has Canadian MPs standing together against US President Donald Trump

Leaders pose for family

Meanwhile, President Trump told reporters Saturday he would know "within the first minute" of their meeting whether Kim is serious about making peace.

Tweeting from Singapore where he's scheduled to hold a nuclear summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, Trump wrote: "Sorry, we can not let our friends, or enemies, take advantage of us on trade anymore".

Before leaving for Singapore, Trump had delivered a stark warning to America's trading partners not to counter his decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

While making no direct criticism of Mr Trump, she left no doubt that European Union nations will impose counter-measures on USA goods in response. Larry Kudlow, Trump's chief economic adviser, told CNN that Trudeau's press conference addressing Trump's actions was "a betrayal". Instead of being awestruck by Trump's random bullying of Trudeau, wouldn't North Korea's Supreme Leader be gravely concerned by the temperament of a man he once called a "mentally deranged US dotard"?

The outburst against Trudeau, and by association the other G7 members, is only the latest incident in which Trump has clashed with America's closest allies, even as he has had warm words for autocrats like Kim and Russia's Vladimir Putin.

Trudeau later said he reiterated to Trump that tariffs will harm industries and workers on both sides of the U.S.

In two fuming tweets fired aboard Air Force One upon his departure from the Group of 7 summit, President Donald Trump accused the host, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, of lying. And as everyone had predicted, Trump made a complete ass of himself, and by extension, the entire United States.

And the young Canadian leader, who has attempted to maintain a public facade of friendship with the USA leader, confirmed that he would regretfully impose retaliatory tariffs on US goods from next month to offset the steel levy. She also said the European Union would "act" against the U.S. Trade measures.

Trump called Trudeau "very dishonest and weak", among other things. "Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!", Trump wrote in a second tweet.

"I think any time you have this type of a public display that allows for separation between us and our allies, that's not a healthy thing", Rounds said.

Trump has framed the topic of trade agreements as an issue of national security, a stance backed by the advisers he has stocked in his White House, including the new National Security Advisor John Bolton.

On his departure from Canada, Mr Trump shattered any semblance of an agreed position between leaders, as he ordered U.S. officials not to endorse a joint communique.

A senior diplomatic source with knowledge of the discussions also said the photo captured an argument on the trade section of the communique. The United States has very high tariffs on other products: 350 percent on smoking tobacco, 130 percent on peanuts and 99 percent on prepared groundnuts.

The President ripped Trudeau on twitter over his "false statements" to the press; adding that he instructed his administration "not to endorse" a joint statement from the G7 countries following the contentious summit.

"Germany pays 1 percent (slowly) of GDP towards North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, while we pay 4 percent of a MUCH larger GDP", he wrote, saying that the USA was protecting Europe and being "clobbered on trade" in return.
