The Dark History of the 'Tranquil' Island Hosting the Trump-Kim Summit

Dennis Rodman looks out at the court at the end of an exhibition basketball game with U.S. and North Korean players at an indoor stadium in Pyongyang North Korea

It has the bomb.

Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un are meeting in Singapore today for talks that many - including the two leaders - thought might never happen. The safety precaution seems extreme until you remember that both Nikhita Krushev and Mikhail Gorbachev reportedly unintentionally gave the Central Intelligence Agency stool samples during visits to the U.S. Add North Korea as an interest to stay up to date on the latest North Korea news, video, and analysis from ABC News.

A global Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) was opened for signature on September 24, 1996.

Hyon is head of North Korea's hugely popular Moranbong girl band, whose members were hand-picked by Kim Jong Un.

The meeting is the first sit-down between a sitting US president and North Korean leader and is meant to settle a standoff over Pyongyang's nuclear program.

When Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited the global media center for the summit at F1 Pit Building on Sunday, he said it will cost the city state "around 20 million Singaporean dollars" (W16.1 billion, US$1=W1,078) to host the "historic summit".

Trump arrived at the hotel after issuing a flurry of tweets dismissing skeptics of the meeting between US leaders and the rogue nuclear nation as "haters & losers".

If Trump and Kim fail in Singapore, "the result may be to enhance North Korean dependency on Seoul and Beijing as safety valves against the prospect of renewal of US-(North Korea) confrontation", according to Scott Snyder, a Korea expert at the Council on Foreign Relations.

The fighting ended on 27 July, 1953, but the war technically continues today because instead of a difficult-to-negotiate peace treaty, military officers for the USA -led United Nations, North Korea and China signed an armistice that halted the fighting.

"We've got a very interesting meeting. tomorrow, and I just think it's going to work out very nicely", Trump said.

Rodman said he hopes to surprise his friend Kim with his appearance during the summit.

At 11.30am Trump and Kim will take part in a "working lunch".

Of course, the stakes for Trump's gamble to meet with Jong Un remain incredibly high, and the administration spent much of the day downplaying the chances for a lasting breakthrough. On Sunday, Trump said he'd know "within the first minute" whether Kim will agree to denuclearization.

-North Korea summit, is expected to pick up a considerable portion of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's bills. Trump briefly called off the summit a few weeks ago before agreeing again to the meeting.

The discussions between the United States and North Korea are ongoing and have moved more quickly than expected.
