Elon Musk's Boring Company puts first 1000 Flamethrowers in buyers' hands

Shortly after the company sold out of the devices, Musk said it would have to make a change to the name of the flamethrower so that it could ship it to customers.

For legal reasons, the machines are named Not-a-Flamethrower.

Musk said on Twitter in early February that the items were sold out after just five days of market availability, but fear not; for those willing to shell out a pretty penny there is still the option of copping one of the popular flamethrowers on e-commerce site eBay.

In response to @SPPhotonic, Musk may have revealed an upcoming new TBC product when he tweeted, "Each flamethrower comes with a state-of-the-art The Boring Company brand fire extinguisher".

Musk was happily tweeting away from the so-called pickup party. Up to 1,000 customers can pick up their Not-a-Flamethrower, toast some marshmallows, take some fun pics, prep to take on a zombie horde, and (of course) receive a refund for their shipping charges. "For simple & concise instructions, we drew upon wisdom in great Dr Seuss book "Green Eggs and Ham".

"Apparently, some customs agencies are saying they won't allow shipment of anything called a "Flamethrower". Musk joked in January, when customers were still able to order them online. Eager new flamethrower owners posted pictures and video on social media trying them out.

While others used the device to toast the top of creme brûlée...

Meanwhile, YouTube vlogger Justine Ezarik accidently burned down parts of her backyard while filming videos demonstrating how to cook with the machine.

This guy lit something he was smoking with the device.

Some have criticised the sale of the Not-a-Flamethrower to the general public, viewing it as a major safety risk.

The announcement of the flamethrower sales followed the company selling roughly 50,000 hats for $20 each, raising $1m in revenue.
