France condemns 'fits of anger' after Donald Trump’s G7 turnaround

But the Canadian prime minister's post-conference criticism Saturday was "a betrayal" that required a response from Trump, to avoid showing weakness on the eve of talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, he added.

Trump tweeted Saturday that he had instructed his representatives not to sign a communique between the seven nations that make up the group just after host Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced all countries had agreed to it.

Trudeau didn't respond to reporters' questions when he arrived at the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City on Sunday morning.

In response, Canada, Mexico and the European Union said they were putting in place their own retaliatory measures.

G7 allies seemed as perplexed as Canada at the sudden diplomatic row, and Germany and France accused Mr Trump of destroying trust and acting inconsistently.

Mr Trump said the USA paid "close to the entire cost of Nato" to help protect countries that "rip us off on trade".

Mr Trudeau said: "Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable but we also will not be pushed around".

Navarro took Kudlow's comments one step further, telling Fox News' Chris Wallace that "there's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad-faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door ..."

Mr Trump called Mr Trudeau "dishonest & weak" after Mr Trudeau said at a news conference that Canada would retaliate for new United States tariffs.

"I have made it very clear to the President that it is not something we relish doing, but it is something that we absolutely will do", Trudeau said.

Trump aide says Trudeau ‘stabbed us in the back’
Macron said it was possible to make progress on the trade issues that have split the USA and its allies after meeting with Trump. Trudeau " dishonest and weak " after the Prime Minister reiterated Canada's already announced plans to retaliate for Mr.

Negotiators worked late Friday to craft a statement that all seven leaders could sign.

Saying Trudeau is "dishonest & weak", he also threatened "tariffs on automobiles flooding the U.S. Market!" Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is front centre.

At the G7 summit, Trump has said he wants to put an end to the United States' status as the world's "piggy bank" and suggested eliminating trade barriers between allies. Or we'll stop trading with them. Canada is focused on maintaining a trilateral pact, the official said.

France has warned that "fits of anger" can not not dictate worldwide cooperation after US President Donald Trump abruptly rejected a previously agreed joint statement in the wake of a fractious Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada.

In his press conference Saturday, Trudeau said he was disappointed in the Trump administration's decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, the European Union, and Mexico, promising retaliatory measures because Canada "will not be pushed around".

Larry Kudlow and Peter Navarro, trade advisors to Trump, went on national television on Sunday to criticize the Canadian prime minister for "betraying" the US president.

"The Prime Minister said nothing he hasn't said before - both in public, and in private conversations with the President". "Let's be serious", the French official, speaking on condition of anonymity, added.

The majority of Canadian exports go to the United States, making Canada uniquely vulnerable to a US trade war.

Asked whether allies had any reason to worry about Trump's commitment to any deal he reaches with North Korea following his abrupt withdrawal from the G7 communique, one US official appeared to brush aside the notion, saying other countries have got used to how the president operates internationally.
