Aletta, first 2018 hurricane, reaches Category 4 near Mexico

Hurricane Aletta now becomes the first tropical storm of the eastern Pacific hurricane season on Thursday, and by the morning of Friday, it would have been upgraded to Category 4 monster. There is no threat to land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Bud had maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour (100 kph) Sunday morning. Some additional strengthening is possible through Saturday.

There is a tropical depression that could strengthen to a hurricane while moving northwest toward the West Coast of Mexico, the National Hurricane Center said.

It was expected to become a hurricane late Sunday or early Monday, but was projected to weaken back to tropical storm force in cooler waters near the Baja California Peninsula.

Vince Vaughn arrested on suspicion of DUI in California
Another person was in the auto Vaughn was driving when it was stopped at a checkpoint at about 4 a.m. local time, TMZ reported . Vaughn's passenger was reportedly also uncooperative with the police and refused to get out of the vehicle as well.

Forecasters are also keeping an eye on another area of low pressure to the east of Aletta.

It's not unusual for the Eastern Pacific season's first storm to be a Category 4 hurricane.

According to figures released in May, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is expecting a near-normal or above-normal season in the Eastern Pacific basin. A Category 3 storm is classified as a major hurricane with sustained winds from 111-129 miles per hour.

Mexico's National Water Commission (Conagua) is predicting 32 hurricanes for this season, four more than average, with 18 in the Pacific and 14 in the Atlantic.
