According to Food Safety News, there are 32 cases reported in MI, 11 in IN, 10 in Missouri, six in IL and one in Ohio. This warning includes melon in prepared fruit salads.

A Centers for Disease Control investigation determined that the multistate outbreak indicates pre-cut melons and fruit salads are the likely source of the salmonella cases.

More than 60 people have come down with salmonella after eating pre-cut melon from Walmart, including six people from IL, and may have been distributed at other stores.

Walmart settled lawsuits in 2014 with the families of some of the 33 people who died of listeria infections traced to cantaloupes from Colorado that the retailer sold. IDPH said the illness usually lasts four to seven days. Twenty-one people have been hospitalized.

"If you don't remember where you bought pre-cut melon, don't eat it and throw it away", the CDC said in a statement.

At least 25 killed as Guatemala's Fuego volcano erupts
The Volcano of Fire has erupted on and off for centuries, according to the USGS, and this is its second eruption this year. Another 20 people have been injured, and more than 2,000 evacuated near the volcano and several cities, including Antigua.

The CDC said that retailers should not serve or sell pre-cut melon products that were distributed by SpartanNash Distribution, Caito Foods Distribution and Gordon Food Service.

The food-borne bacteria sickens more than 1 million people annually in the United States, most commonly presenting as temporary fever, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting or abdominal pain. "If you have recently purchased pre-cut melon from Walmart, throw it out", Shah said.

"This investigation is moving rapidly".

The CDC is not recommending that people avoid whole melons. The CDC has indicated there have been more hospitalizations with this outbreak than what is typically seen.
