Qingdao: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Qingdao.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met Chinese President Xi Jinping soon after his arrival in the port city of Qingdao, in China, where the two leaders are to take stock of the progress in implementing the decisions they had taken at their informal summit in Wuhan.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and covered key aspects of the bilateral engagement, reflecting the resolve by the two countries to reset relations and bring back trust in their ties which was hit by the Doklam standoff and several other thorny issues.

India said previous year that China had not stuck to an agreement to share hydrological data, or scientific information on the movement, distribution and quality of water for the Brahmaputra river.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said he planned to discuss the situation following the United States withdrawal from the Iranian deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The president also plans to hold bilateral meetings with the leaders of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan, and a tripartite meeting with the presidents of China and Mongolia. "Our talks will add further vigour to the India-China friendship", Modi said in a tweet.

The member-countries are expected to sign the Qingdao Declaration. Countries outside the SCO will be looking closely at what transpires at the summit.

China's Belt and Road Initiative was also strongly opposed by India as part of it goes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
