Gennady Golovkin stripped of IBF middleweight title

Gennady Golovkin was stripped of his IBF middleweight belt on Wednesday as a result of his failure to fight mandatory challenger Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

The IBF previously said it would invoke its rule 5.H if Golovkin goes through with the fight against Martirosyan, which states, "If a champion participates in an unsanctioned contest within his prescribed weight limit, the title will be declared vacant whether the champion wins or loses the bout". Instead of the fight Gennady held a may 5 fight with American of Armenian descent Vanes Martirosyan, but the fight was not sanctioned by the IBF. I can't understand why the IBF stripped of the title Golovkin is a big surprise for all of us.

Secondly, the IBF gave GGG a deadline to agree in writing to fight Derevyanchenko. The news comes after the IBF and representatives for both Golovkin and Derevyanchenko met on May 22 to discuss whether or not Golovkin could potentially move on to fighting someone else and still keep his IBF title.

Although Golovkin's goal has always been to join Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor as the only fighters in middleweight history to hold all four recognized titles at the same time, the timing of his mandated fight against the high-risk, low-reward Derevyanchenko clashed with his hopes of securing a September pay-per-view rematch with Alvarez.

Salmonella outbreak linked to cut melon at Walmart, Kroger
According to Food Safety News, there are 32 cases reported in MI , 11 in IN, 10 in Missouri, six in IL and one in Ohio. The CDC has indicated there have been more hospitalizations with this outbreak than what is typically seen.

Alvarez is a primary reason Golovkin fought Martirosyan in the first place.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya said negotiations for a September 15 bout were ending on Tuesday, however, Loeffler said Golovkin is willing to drop his demands for an even split of the money.

"Gennady has agreed to come off his 50-50 demand", Loeffler added to ESPN.

Golovkin had been scheduled to fight Canelo Alvarez in May, only for the latter to test positive for a banned substance and receive a six-month suspension. It will be Canelo making 55 percent in a rematch against GGG, which will be much bigger than the first fight was for sure.
