White House reportedly considering new economic penalties against Canada

White House reportedly considering new economic penalties against Canada

German Chancellor Angela Merkel previewed the dynamics on Wednesday, telling the German parliament that "it is apparent that we have a serious problem with multilateral agreements here, and so there will be contentious discussions".

The EU trade surplus with the U.S.is $151 Billion, and Canada keeps our farmers and others out.

The paper said that Trump has been complaining that the two-day trip to Canada for the meeting with other world leaders is "a distraction" from his upcoming summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore. Soldiers reportedly sat down to eat a meal made of leftover food from the White House scullery using White House dishes and silver before ransacking the presidential mansion and setting it ablaze.

Earlier today, The Washington Post reported that Trump isn't is exactly excited about his trip to The Great White North.

And ahead of the summit he went on Twitter attacking the European Union and his Canadian host Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

"If that's not an example of national security collaboration, I don't know what is".

Twitter users found the error both embarrassing and hilarious.

Praising Mr Trump's past involvement she said he had managed to help her deliver a top priority a year ago.

But the report would also hurt the argument of many in the Trump administration that the USA economy can still see robust economic growth even with the tariffs in place.

Ex-defence intelligence officer arrested over alleged spying for China
Officials said he was arrested after a sting operation near the Seattle airport, as he was headed toward a China-bound flight. He suggested the informant should "cut a hole in a nearby tree and hide [the documents] in that location", agents wrote.

Yet rarely have these summits seen a USA leader so at odds with his fellow leaders.

"We know there will certainly be frank and at times hard conversations around the G7 table, particularly with the American president on trade, on tariffs", he said. "So that we may have disagreements, we may have tactical disagreements, but he has always said - and I agree - tariffs are a tool in that effort". He, along with other G7 leaders, say they will demand Trump reverse the duties when they meet him during the summit, which begins Friday in nearby La Malbaie. "Within the global framework, we have to take measures and that's what Canada has done and what the European Union has also announced".

"There is no reason to use this provision to consider imposing tariffs on the automobile industry, and this appears to be either an attempt to affect domestic politics ahead of the election or for some other transactional objective regarding ongoing trade discussions".

By contrast, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said the talks were "far more a G6 plus one than a G7".

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin responded: "We believe in the G-7, it's an important group", adding that Trump looks forward to the gathering. "We are allies. Our soldiers stand shoulder to shoulder to defend liberty and our values", Macron said.

Trudeau has publicly denounced the "national security" justification for the new tariffs.

It is not clear if the comment was intended as a joke, but CNN report that it followed an exchange in which Mr Trudeau asked how the United States could justify the tariffs as a "national security" issue.

"This is deeply offensive to Canadians", Alden said.

"We do seem to be at a little bit of a Rubicon moment in terms of whether or not the United States is going to fundamentally turn its back on this economic order", said Thomas Wright of the Brookings Institution think tank in Washington.
