Republican advances in California primary with Trump's help

John Cox is a businessman backed by President Trump

The probability that Democrats will advance to the general election in these three districts is undoubtedly good for the party's prospects of taking back the House of Representatives in November.

Republican John Cox thinks high taxes, a high cost of living and a growing housing crisis give him an opening to take on Democrat Gavin Newsom in the fight to be California's next governor.

Belatedly, the Democratic congressional campaign apparatus interceded with big wads of money to knock down Republicans and pump up favored Democrats, and it paid off. Republicans won't have locks on any of the districts, and there will be conventional Democrat vs. But those under 40 are the most likely to favor a member of Congress who has opposed the president's agenda.

It was, in effect, an informal alliance of very odd political bedfellows, using Cox as a foil for their own, very different agendas - and it could have national consequences in the continuing battle over those congressional seats. Dianne Feinstein easily outdistanced another Democrat, state Sen. Who makes it through will likely take some time to figure out. Ed Royce and Darrell Issa are retiring, respectively and the 48th district, where Rep. Dana Rohrbacher is running for a 16 term but is plagued by controversial ties to Russian Federation. If Grisham wins, she'll be the second Latina to become the state's executive, after Martinez.

In South Dakota, Republican Kristi Noem became the first female nominee for governor in state history. "Democrats have done a good job of turning enthusiasm into a large number of candidates, of turning enthusiasm into fundraising", Gonzalez said. And in New Mexico, former state Democratic Party chairwoman Debra Haaland, a tribal member of Laguna Pueblo, was making a bid to become the first Native American woman in Congress.

In Montana, the establishment-backed Matt Rosendale, the state auditor, won the Republican Senate nomination; he'll face a slightly uphill but by no means unwinnable race against Democratic incumbent Jon Tester.

Not that the primary results suggest the road ahead is easy. That may explain why, in an election season where their place in California's pecking order fell below that of unaffiliated voters, GOP leaders celebrated their relatively strong showing Tuesday. At a minimum, this puts New Jersey in play for Republicans and will draw millions of Democratic dollars away from other races to defend Menendez.

Cox faces long odds in November.

Has Bernie's power in Iowa peaked?

Cox begins the final round in the race for governor as a decided underdog, probably at the level of Neel Kashkari, the GOP challenger in 2014 to Gov. In the 48th District, 52 percent for the Republican.

D'Alessandro, Sanders' top aide in Iowa during the 2016 caucus, finished a distant third to Eddie Mauro, a former teacher, and Cindy Axne, a former state government official on Tuesday night, according to CNN's projection.

Steam updates game-content guidelines, will include "something that you hate"
Johnson added that Valve will "focus less on trying to police what should be on Steam, and more on building those tools to give people control over what kinds of content they see".

"I can not look my children in the eye and justify a vote for a man who promotes and boasts about sexually assaulting women", she said at the time.

If Roby were to lose the runoff, she would be the second House Republican defeated in a 2018 primary. Rep. Robert Pittenger of North Carolina lost to former pastor Mark Harris in May.

Nationally, crosscurrents remain in the contest for control of the House. But for the first time in years, Texas Democrats seem determined not to let Republicans pick up seats without a fight. That may have helped wavering GOP voters stick with the San Diego businessman rather than split their votes among other candidates - the kind of split that could have allowed Villaraigosa to leapfrog into second place.

This is Retiring Republican Rep. Darrell Issa's seat. Frank LoBiondo's district, state Sen.

Democrats awoke today and surveyed the landscape in California and elsewhere across the country and looked toward November with relief.

Francine Karuntzos, a 57-year-old retiree from Huntington Beach, California, said she had deep concerns about the Republican president - particularly his recent declaration that he could pardon himself.

Democrat Lauren Arthur, a state representative, led Republican Kevin Corlew, also a state representative, by close to 20% with all precincts reporting.

His presidency generates the energy that is the foundation of Democratic grassroots intensity that has shown up repeatedly in special and primary elections for a year or more.

Why does this small seat in Missouri matter nationally? If Democrats are to win the House in November, they must hope that is maintained through to Election Day, although there have been no signs that this energy is abating. The winners of Tuesday's contests will join the Assembly immediately to serve out of the rest of the terms through November.
