Koch brothers take on Trump over tariffs with multi-million dollar campaign

In a letter to Koch Industries employees written by his brother Charles Koch, the men announced that David was stepping down due to health concerns. Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips said.

The LIBRE Initiative President Daniel Garza stated, "We are pleased to stand with those who understand how greatly America benefits from trade - and how badly hurt we are by tariffs and other barriers".

The 78-year-old Wichita, Kansas native was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1992 and has since undergone several rounds of treatments.

David Koch is leaving his roles as executive vice-president and board member for Koch Industries and chairman of the board for the Americans For Prosperity Foundation, the charity related to Koch brothers' primary political organization.

Through a constellation of aligned groups, the network still plans to spend between $300 million and $400 million on politics and policy during the 2018 election cycle.

Businessman David Koch arrives at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala 2015 celebrating the opening of "China: Through the Looking Glass", in Manhattan, New York May 4, 2015.

The Kochs, who have channeled billions of dollars into conservative causes, kept their distance from Trump during the 2016 presidential election.

Facebook Bug Changed Privacy Settings of Up to 14 Million Users
The news followed a recent furor over Facebook's sharing of user data - oversharing, in the eyes of many critics. Those were set to be publicly visible, but Facebook accidentally extended that setting to all new posts.

While Charles Koch has remained in the family's hometown of Wichita, David Koch is a prominent figure in NY, where he has been a big contributor to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a leading arts patron.

On Monday, their network announced a multi-year, multi-million-dollar campaign to promote free trade and oppose President Donald Trump's moves to impose tariffs.

Koch, who now lives in NY with his family, will continue to serve on some boards of organizations to which he has philanthropic ties.

He also gave $128 million to New York Presbyterian Hospital, $26.5 million to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, $26.2 million to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, $20 million to Johns Hopkins University, $10 million to Mount Sinai Medical Center and $10 million to the children's hospital at Stanford University for allergy research, according to the newspaper. His ticket, with Ed Clark, received just 1 percent of the popular vote. The money has come through personal gifts and the David H. Koch Foundation. The company, with annual revenue of $100 billion, operates pipelines, produces fertilizer and manufactures products such as Dixie cups and Quilted Northern toilet paper.

David, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer nearly two decades ago, is the executive vice president at Koch Industries.

David Koch, along with his brother Charles, owns the second largest private USA company, whose operations range from refining and chemicals to ranching and forest products.
