Val Kilmer Confirmed For Top Gun 2 Return

Val Kilmer Confirmed to Reprise Iceman in Top Gun 2

It seemed insane that anyone might make a sequel to 1986's Top Gun without including Val Kilmer's Iceman, but then again, it seemed insane that anyone might make a sequel to 1986's Top Gun after Tony Scott died, and look where that assumption got us. The actor had previously confirmed that he was indeed asked to come back to reprise his role as Iceman in the sequel. Production on the long-in-the-works follow-up began last week, and Tom Cruise is back again in the lead role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, which confirmed a previous report, none other than the "Iceman" himself, Val Kilmer will reprise the iconic role that rivaled Cruise's own in the popular action movie.

The sequel, titled Top Gun: Maverick, will follow Cruise's Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as he passes his flyboy knowledge on to a new generation of pilots in the US Navy. Released in "86 at the height of Morning in America jingoism, it starred Tom Cruise as Maverick, a hot shot Naval fighter pilot who doesn't play by your rules, man!"

The movie will be direct by Joseph Kosinski, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films along with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media.

Irish boxing gym 'heartbroken' by fatal shooting
Sky Sports reported Tuesday morning that the attacker entered the gym, fired numerous shots and fled in a silver Volkswagen. Katie Taylor, 31, won gold at the 2012 Olympics before turning professional, having been trained by her father Pete.

The Paramount movie, which hits theaters next summer on July 12, 2019 and is now in production in San Diego, follows fighter pilots who are entangled in a drone-driven airspace which has made their flying obsolete. Composer Harold Faltermeyer will also return to score the sequel.

Stay tuned for more on Top Gun: Maverick as it becomes available.
