US calls for China to account for the 'ghosts' of Tiananmen
A Chinese man stands alone to block a line of tanks heading east on Beijing's Cangan Boulevard in Tiananmen Square, June 5, 1989.

Basing his submission on five thematic areas namely; Attitude, Change Behaviour, Creating Value, Replace, Reuse and Awareness, he explained that, there was the need to reduce dependency on plastic usage to save humans and marine lives. Since plastic bags take around one thousand years to decompose one can only imagine how long the existing ones will remain in our lives.

"Also, through the Swachh Bharat Campaign, the waste to wealth movement has gained strength".

"We have a problem that marine biologists and oceans experts have been warning us about for years but it is only now that the issue is so starkly in our sight that we are forced to face it", he remarked.

He said questions have been raised about limited options for cheap packaging of food and drinks, especially where consumers are relatively poor; micro marketing methods of fast moving consumer goods in sachets; and the retailing of detergents also in sachets.

Earlier, it was the United Nations which had also invited people to join the global game of tagging people to beat the use of plastic.

The event emphasised the role of schools, colleges and universities in protecting nature and environment as well as beating plastic pollution, stated another official release.

UN Environment head Erik Solheim, said: "The assessment shows that action can be painless and profitable - with huge gains for people and the planet that help avert the costly downstream costs of pollution".
