Fekir chances boosted for Liverpool as Lyon confirm Ben Arfa interest

Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool have reportedly been tracking the Lyon ace all summer long.

However, Fekir has never started a competitive match for France so is unlikely to be a key player at the 2018 World Cup.

They claim that 19-year-old midfielder Houssem Aouar is set to sign a new five-year contract, with Lyon urging him to step up as Fekir's replacement.

Fekir is clearly a target for Liverpool and if they have to wait until after the World Cup to sign him then they'd be prepared to do just that, having shown patience in the market in the past. Lyon are reportedly asking for around £60 million for the French worldwide, and it has was reported that Liverpool could match that price.

Negotiations are said to have progressed slowly with Lyon keen to keep hold of their star man until the conclusion of the World Cup in Russian Federation, where they hope a solid campaign could up Fekir's value.

Irish boxing gym 'heartbroken' by fatal shooting
Sky Sports reported Tuesday morning that the attacker entered the gym, fired numerous shots and fled in a silver Volkswagen. Katie Taylor, 31, won gold at the 2012 Olympics before turning professional, having been trained by her father Pete.

But with the player reportedly insisting on leaving the club only for Liverpool, has forced Aulas' hand in the deal. Now the President has conceded a possible bidding war for the star attacker and will seemingly accept his departure to Liverpool, but only if the Reds match his asking price.

The France worldwide has been courted by the Reds this summer, after a stellar campaign with Lyon last season, where he chalked up an incredible 23 goals and eight assists in 40 appearances in all competitions - all from an attacking midfield role.

Jurgen Klopp has yet to tap into the Philippe Coutinho funds made earlier in the year, who was sold to Barcelona earlier this year. It is worthy to be noted that both the players in the discussion play in the same position.

The Reds are now in talks with the Ligue 1 side as they bid to make Fekir their third signing of the summer, following Naby Keita and Fabinho. So ideally the German views Fekir as the player to fill that void and add to Liverpool's quest to become a free-flowing attacking unit.
