Scientists: Protein diet can provoke heart failure and diabetes

High-protein diets like the keto diet and the Atkins diet are popular these days, but such diets may increase the risk of heart failure in middle-age men, a new study from Finland suggests. "Only proteins from fish and eggs were not associated with heart failure risk", said Jyrki Virtanen from the University of Eastern Finland-Kuopio. "Earlier studies have linked diets high in protein - especially from animal sources - with increased risks of type 2 diabetes and even death". 70 percent of the protein consumed was from animal sources and 27.7 percent from plant sources.

Generally, there is higher risk of heart failure associated with nearly all protein dietary sources other than proteins from eggs and fish. The researchers said that proteins from fish and eggs were not associated with the risk. In addition, heart problems half as often occurred in those who received protein mainly from meat and dairy products.

Despite the popularity of high protein diets, there is little research about how diets high in protein might impact men's heart failure risk.

While the study shows that there are risks to consuming high amounts of protein, it might not be time to write off protein from the diet just yet.

Warriors reach 4th straight NBA Finals
This season was no cakewalk for them, either. "Believe it or not, it's not all success with the Warriors ". Paul was injured in the fourth quarter of Houston's win over the Warriors on Thursday night.

17 percent higher for plant protein.

The authors of the study concluded that as there is now little research on the link between dietary protein and heart failure risk, further research is needed before they can say that moderating protein intake would help to prevent it.

The study, which was published May 29 in the journal Circulation: Heart Failure, is one of the first to look at the link between high-protein diets and heart failure, a condition in which the heart muscle can't pump enough blood to meet the body's normal demands.

Finnish biologists note that to prove their hypothesis, they need additional study. After that, the scientists watched them for 22 years, during which 330 participants were diagnosed with heart failure. K. (2018).
