PayPal Now Fully Integrates With Google Accounts

By integrating more deeply with Google, PayPal now allow you to seamlessly make payments in the likes of Gmail, YouTube, Google Pay and Google Store.

We already partner with Google to make it easy for our shared users to pay via PayPal in-store, online and in-app with Google Pay and on Chrome mobile web at millions of online merchants using their PayPal accounts and their device authentication.

Making Google Pay payments using PayPal is as clunky as it sounds; you only have the option to "top up" your PayPal balance in set amounts, rather than the exact amount needed for a transaction, and sending money from your checking account through two intervening third parties seems unnecessarily convoluted.

PayPal, which had 237 million active accounts worldwide as of Q1 2018, is becoming a highly versatile payment platform with continued integrations with Google. The higher transaction volume would then boost PayPal's revenue potential, especially after former owner eBay in February dropped the company as its main payment processor in favor of Dutch rival Adyen, a major loss for PayPal.

It follows an earlier partnership between PayPal and Android Pay and builds on the wider ties that PayPal has been building with leading payment networks, financial institutions and technology companies. PayPal announced this new feature in a press release (via TheStreet). As there is support for any service that makes use of Google Pay, users will also be able to make peer-to-peer payments.

This won't mean a lot for everyone, but if you're a heavy PayPal user, this is bound to be exciting news.

Android Pay (RIP) added PayPal support this week past year, and allowed the addition of PayPal Business Debit Mastercards in January.
