Buffalo Bills to Retire Thurman Thomas' Jersey Number

The Bills have (understandably) retired just one number in franchise history, No. 12, which belonged to their greatest player, quarterback Jim Kelly.

The Buffalo Bills have announced the team will retire the No. 34 jersey of Thurman Thomas this year, according to NFL.com and other news sources.

The Buffalo Bills announced Wednesday that they will retire the No. 34 of Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas during the team's Monday Night Football clash with the New England Patriots on October 29.

California To Appeal Ruling On Life-Ending Drugs
Judge Ottolia denied the group's request for an immediate injunction, but allowed the challenge to move forward in court. Though the ruling might only be temporary, one terminally ill woman at the May 15 hearing was grateful for it.

But there comes a time when a player is so legendary to a team and a city, no one should be allowed to wear his number ever again. In the first three seasons of his career, Thomas had a total of 12 games with at least 100 yards rushing. He also excelled as part of the Bills passing game, finishing with 500 or more receiving yards four times.

Thomas was the AFC rushing leader in 1990, 1991, and 1993.

On eight consecutive occasions did Thomas eclipse the 1,000-yard mark during his National Football League career. "I'm still involved with the community, the Buffalo Bills, I think all of that really makes it special". Kelly famously led the team to four straight Super Bowls, but unfortunately walked away with zero rings.
