The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, received the report on the 2018 budget - six months after President Muhammadu Buhari presented the document to the National Assembly.

The motion for the presentation of the budget report was moved by Senator Danjuma Goje, who is the Chairman of the Appropriation Committee and seconded by Senator Matthew Uroghide.

Also, the budget has just been laid before the House of Representatives by the Appropriations Committee.

The House proposed N2.86tn as contribution to the Development Fund for Capital Expenditure.

The 2017 budget expires on May 31, 2018.

Expeditious consideration for the 2018 budget estimates by both chambers of the National Assembly ran into troubled waters in December past year when the federal lawmakers observed that details of implementation of the capital components of the 2017 budget were not made available by the executive.

Judge rules Mueller has authority to prosecute former Trump campaign chairman Manafort
Manafort, Jackson said, was not merely associated with President Donald Trump's campaign but served as its chairman for a time. Manafort has asked a different federal judge there to dismiss his case on similar grounds.

The delay had prompted President Muhammadu Buhari to issue a deadline to heads of all MDAs to defend their budgets unfailingly.

The details of the budget were listed on the order paper available at the senate on Tuesday.

Therefore, the Senate on February 14, 2018, gave the MDAs one-week ultimatum to submit details of their 2018 budget proposals or risk sanctions.

" I think it is very clear that the mandate we give to them is one week".

Speaking during today's House sitting, Yusuf Lasun, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, said the lawmakers are expected to pass the budget on Wednesday or Thursday.

"I have earlier said it in other fora that the senate targets to lay the budget this week at its plenary".
