Dakota Pitts to went back to school on Monday since his father was killed in the line of duty last week

"Our hope is that Dakota's first day back to school after his father's passing is one that he will remember forever and that he will always know how much his father's sacrifice meant to all of us", she added. Colleagues of Officer Pitts say they want Dakota to know they will always have his back.

The suspect was killed, while Officer Pitts died at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

In Terre Haute, Indiana, the 5-year-old son of a slain police officer received an overwhelming welcome for his first day back to school after his father's shooting death.

When he arrived at Sullivan Elementary, there were 70 IN police waiting outside to give Dakota his very own police escort to school. Then an officer presented the young LAD with his own SWAT shirt as he made his way to the door of Sullivan Elementary School.

His father Rob Pitts, a 16-year veteran with the force, was tragically killed on May 4 in a shootout aged 45.

Wolfe was armed with a handgun and fired at the officers, striking Pitts, court documents said.

Wolfe was also killed in the gunfire exchange.

"It's a brotherhood", said Detective Les Hamm.

"The sorrow @FLJanetHolcomb & I feel for the family of Patrolman Rob Pitts, the Terre Haute Police Department & the Wabash Valley region is beyond words".

He leaves behind son Dakota and another son and daughter.
