Maharashtra ATS Arrests Man Planning Terror Attacks

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a 32-year-old terror suspect who recently arrived in Mumbai after allegedly receiving arms training in Pakistan and was planning to conduct a series of bomb explosions throughout the city.

Investigation has revealed that Jogeshwari resident Mirza had brainwashed a few people from Mumbai, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, and were preparing to take them to Pakistan for training.

According to ATS officials, Mirza, an electrician by profession, was in touch with LeT members that are believed to have been involved in the November 2008 attack in Mumbai. "He was under our observation continuously and we finally arrested him on Friday", said an ATS official.

The officer said that during interrogation, it came to light that an accused earlier wanted in a terror-related case based out of Sharjah had arranged for Mirza to travel there. An ATS officer said, "It has been learned that the man had travelled to Pakistan via Sharjah after his stay in Dubai".

"The Pakistani handlers had made several improvisations while taking the terrorist from Mumbai to Sharjah and from there to Pakistan this time". Devadiwala was Mirza's handler and the latter was awaiting orders from Devadiwala when apprehended, sources revealed. Mirza is said to have told the intelligence agencies that there are at least six training camps active in and around Karachi.

The accused was used to target prominent personalities and places in India.

With this information, the ATS launched a search, identified the suspect as Mr. Mirza, and arrested him.

"In Karachi, he was trained at a terror camp where he was shown how to handle firearms. make explosives and carry out suicide missions", the officer said.
