John Oliver mocks AT&T for paying Michael Cohen to 'understand' Trump's thinking

Uber rebuffed Michael Cohen's consulting offer despite promises to share White House insight report

Oliver proceeded to mock AT&T, which is now in a legal battle with the Justice Department over its proposed merger with HBO's parent company, Time Warner, for the company's statement addressing the controversy, saying that they paid Cohen to "provide insights into understanding the new administration".

"Mr. Cohen repeatedly pitched Uber, which said no, citing Mr. Cohen's ownership of NY taxi medallions as a potential conflict of interest with the ride-hailing firm, a person close to the company said", the publication writes.

An AT&T spokesman said, "We are aware of the letter and will respond". A federal judge ruled last month that a "special master" could review the materials seized before federal prosecutors got them in order to determine if any business documents or records were covered by attorney-client privilege.

In Trump's Washington swamp, the shit just keeps getting deeper.

But ultimately, Oliver argued, Columbus Nova, AT&T, Novartis, and the other companies that shelled out millions to Cohen got exactly what they paid for.

Rise in school referrals for child mental health treatment
Stress is taking its toll with nearly three quarters of Scots who took part in a survey feeling unable to cope in the past year. More than half of the referrals came from primary schools, where children are under the age of 11, the figures showed.

Last week, Cohen drew further scrutiny after a report from Stormy Daniels' lawyer, Michael Avenatti, alleged that Cohen's shell company, Essential Consultants LLC, accepted payments from corporations that included AT&T, Novartis, and Korea Aerospace Industries.

AT&T told The New York Times that it was hoping to better understand the president's thinking, but Oliver called that "just ridiculous".

The payments have come under unusual scrutiny because because they were made into a DE shell company through which Cohen paid hush money to a porn-star who said she had an affair with Trump. Senators Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wyden and Richard Blumenthal noted that those payments were made, in spite of the fact that Cohen lacks experience and knowledge about tax reform, antitrust issues, and FCC policy. So, you wanna know how the Trump administration works? "Congratulations, you just got a f*****g masterclass".

Talking about allegations Cohen pitched himself as "closest to the president" to potential clients, Oliver added "that is a little bit weird because lawyers don't generally pitch themselves by offering up info on their other clients-it's like a doctor saying 'if you hire me I'll tell about all of Larry King's birthmarks'".
