Tesla with Autopilot slams into truck stopped at red light

Police in a Salt Lake City suburb say it's not immediately known whether a Tesla Model S sedan's semi-autonomous

Authorities are still investigating and have contacted the National Transportation Safety Board, The Associated Press reported. According to the police, the female driver has suffered a a minor injury of broken ankle but auto has undergone heavy damage.

Tesla's main technical contact with United States safety investigators, Matthew Schwall, has left the electric carmaker for Alphabet's self-driving unit Waymo, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing people familiar the decision.

The NTSB is investigating, stating that while the agency doesn't traditionally involve itself with auto accidents, investigators want to know why the vehicle burned following impact. The truck driver fire brigade was not injured.

The investigation continues into a Friday crash involving a Tesla Model S and a fire truck in South Jordan, Utah.
