Kelly pulled from Spotify playlists

Spotify removes R Kelly music from streaming services

On Thursday, the digital music platform Spotify announced new policy preventing the promotion of music from any "hateful" artist, including singer and alleged sexual predator R Kelly.

"That's why we do not permit hate content on Spotify, and remove it whenever we find it", the policy stated.

This week, Spotify issued a statement claiming it would pull music from artists with hate content.

The new policy defines hateful conduct as "something that is especially harmful or hateful", such as violence against children and sexual violence. Spotify has since chose to also remove XXXTentacion, being that he has also been considered to have violated Spotify's new public hate content and hateful conduct policy.

Spotify's goal is to match its editorial decisions - what it chooses to program - to its values, the company said.

The organization also called upon several music industry heavyweights, including streaming services, as well as, Kelly's record label to cut ties with him.

The 20-year-old, who denies the accusations leveled at him, recently appeared on the Rap Caviar playlist.

AT&T paid Trump lawyer to advise on Time Warner deal
It said Cohen approached AT&T in the transition period between Trump's November 2016 election and his January 2017 swearing-in. Though Cohen was still contracted with AT&T at the time, the company says he never lobbied on its behalf.

To help us identify hate content, we have partnered with rights advocacy groups, including The Southern Poverty Law Center, The Anti-Defamation League, Color Of Change, Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), GLAAD, Muslim Advocates, and the International Network Against Cyber Hate.

The Ignition (Remix) hitmaker has faced intense scrutiny over the past year amid renewed concerns about his offstage behaviour, after facing a string of sexual violence allegations and claims suggesting he is running a "sex cult".

In other related news, a rep for XXXTentacion reached out to Billboard regarding Spotify's decision to no longer promote XXXTentacion, writing, "I don't have a comment, just a question".

Spotify's new policy comes down hard on certain content from musical artists. Of course, that works to Spotify's advantage, giving them leeway to pick artists with impunity.

The Bump n' Grind singer, who has not been convicted of any crimes despite allegations of sexual misconduct, released a statement saying his songs were about his love and passion for women while others who continued to be promoted made songs that were violent and anti-women in nature.

It went on: "Time's Up has neglected to speak with any of the women who welcome R Kelly's support, and it has rushed to judgement without the facts".

Kelly had been scheduled to be among the performers at a May 5 concert in Chicago, but was dropped as efforts by organizers of #MuteRKelly gained attention with support from Hollywood's Time's Up campaign. A woman told Rolling Stone a year ago that she was in a long-term relationship with the singer that was sexually and physically abusive.
