Bill Cosby's Wife Slams His Guilty Verdict As 'Mob Justice'

A jury found Bill Cosby guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault on Thursday, for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home in a Philadelphia suburb in 2004.

Mrs Cosby said her husband's prosecution was politically motivated, repeating his team's contention that he had been a pawn in a heated race for district attorney.

"In the case of Bill Cosby, unproven accusations evolved into lynch mobs, who publicly and privately coerced cancellations of Bill Cosby's scheduled performances; syndications of The Cosby Show; rescissions of honorary degrees and a vindictive attempt to close an exhibition of our collection of African American art in the Smithsonian Museum of African Art". The killers, meanwhile, were acquitted.

Finally, Camille goes on to say that Bill, "an innocent person has been found guilty based on unthinking, unquestioning, unconstitutional frenzy propagated by the media and allowed to play out in a supposed court of law". Instead, she chose to make an argument for how the accusations against her husband and the conviction itself are akin to "lynch mobs", saying that what occurred in the court room was "mob justice, not real justice".

Camille, 74, and Bill, 80, have been married since 1964.

Camille Cosby's statement comes as her husband is on house arrest, awaiting sentencing.

I firmly believe her recent testimony during trial was perjured; as was shown at trial, it was unsupported by any evidence and riddled with innumerable, dishonest contradictions.

When it was the prosecution's turn to argue, she left the courtroom, and Ms Constand entered.

"I am publicly asking for a criminal investigation of that district attorney and his cohorts", she added. "This is a homogeneous group of exploitive and corrupt people, whose primary objective is to advance themselves professionally and economically at the expense of Mr. Cosby's life".

Cosby's publicist has also declared his conviction a "public lynching", and his lawyers have vowed to appeal. "There is nothing else that needs to be said" the lawyer's office said in a statement to Newsweek.

But Constand's attorney, Dolores Troiani, dismissed the statement when contacted for her response. Camille also suggested that one of Bill Cosby's accusers, Andrea Constand, had lied under oath. As a result, Cosby claimed, there was no possibility for an unbiased jury and fair trial.

Over fifty women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct or assault in alleged instances occurring since the late 1960s.

Ms Constand's lawyer bristled at the statement and asked: "Why would any reputable outlet publish that?"

Judge Steven O'Neill has yet to schedule a sentencing date, but Cosby has been confined to his home and fitted with a Global Positioning System tracking device.

The wife of Bill Cosby on Thursday slammed as "mob justice" her husband's conviction by a USA jury of sexual assault, attacking the media, prosecutors and his accuser in a tirade-laden statement.
