The Airbus, arriving from Dammam airport to Abu Dhabi, was carrying dozens of passengers while flying over global waters on the Bahrain flight information region and fulfilling all necessary procedures.

Bahrain's civil aviation agency said in a statement cited by news agency National Basketball Association that the Airbus 320 was travelling from Dammam in eastern Saudi Arabia to UAE capital Abu Dhabi.

The United Arab Emirates has again accused Qatari military fighter jets of coming dangerously close to an Emirati commercial airliner landing in Bahrain.

Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) condemned the statement by the UAE Civil Aviation Authority, accusing the State of Qatar of threatening air safety and security.

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced on Sunday that Qatari fighter jets flew dangerously close to a UAE civil aircraft with 86 passengers onboard while passing through the Bahraini airspace, in a repeated action in stark violation of the worldwide laws and agreements.

"The Qatari fighters pursued the UAE civil aircraft and approaching it, reducing the horizontal distance to less than two miles and the vertical to 700 feet, leaving a few seconds before the collision of the aircraft", according to the statement.

"The Ministry reiterates that these provocative and repeated acts, which the State of Qatar bears responsibility for, represent a threat to passengers and endangers their lives.it also threatens the safety of civil aviation and is a serious violation of relevant worldwide laws and conventions".

"The kingdom reserves the right to take all actions with the International Civil Aviation Organisation and related organisations to put an end to these illegal practices which are carried out by the Qatari authorities", Bahrain's Civil Aviation Affairs department said in a similar statement.

Both countries have accused each other of a series of mid-air incidents since Abu Dhabi and other powers imposed travel, diplomatic and trade sanctions on Qatar in June.
