Giants' GM expresses interest in Dez Bryant after releasing Brandon Marshall

New York Giants

The 34-year-old's status with the team has been in question since undergoing ankle surgery in October.

Among those organizations, the New York Giants are the franchise Bryant singled out as having the most interest in joining.

Before being released, Bryant caught 69 passes for 838 yards and six touchdowns for the Cowboys in 2017, and has 531 receptions for 7,459 yards and 73 touchdowns while averaging 14 yards per catch in 113 career games.

By cutting both Marshall and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, the team will save about $11 million in cap. Gettleman will need close to $10 million in cap space to sign this year's draft class, according to Over the Cap.

On Tuesday, Marshall let everyone know he was threatened by the prospect of Dez Bryant taking his job by posting, "Sorry baby bro no room" on IG story".

Meanwhile, Marshall shouldn't have much trouble latching on elsewhere as a No. 2 or 3 receiver as long as his medical check comes back clean after the failed Giants physical. "We do our film work". But for the first time, an NFC East team has shown interest in Bryant. While Marshall dreamed of winning a Super Bowl with the Giants before calling it a career at the end of his contract, the Giants imagined he'd serve as the ideal compliment to Odell Beckham Jr. Playing with him, Sterling (Shepard) ... the tight end (Evan Engram), (QB Eli) Manning?

Marshall was reportedly "under the impression that he would remain on the Giants' roster" after agreeing to take a pay cut in March.

The 34-year-old has played for five teams during his 12-year National Football League career, amassing 959 receptions for 12,215 yards and 82 touchdowns during that span.
