Syrian air defences respond to missile attack on two airbases

Syrian air defenses repel strike on Shayrat air base in Homs — SANA

Syrian government air defenses have shot down missiles targeting Shayrat Airbase in the western province of Homs, state media reported on Tuesday.

Also, the Israeli warplanes fired missiles on the T-4 airbase in the eastern countryside of Homs on April 9, killing 14 soldiers, including Iranian fighters, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

State television showed pictures of a missile that was shot in the air above the air base on Monday night, local time, only days after a US, British and French attack on Syrian targets, including the ai rbase, in retaliation for a suspected chemical attack on Douma.

Medics and rescuers said the alleged chemical attack killed more than 40 people in Douma, weeks into a brutal regime air and ground assault to retake the wider region on the outskirts of Damascus from opposition forces.

Saturday's strike: The US, France and the United Kingdom launched airstrikes against Syrian government targets on Saturday in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack by the government on civilians in Douma city near Damascus.

The US Department of Defense said there was "no USA military activity in that area at this time". Meanwhile, the Syrian state TV aired still image of what it said was the air defences intercepting the missiles.

Syria and its main allies Iran and Russian Federation blamed Israel for that attack.

Following reports of an Israeli strike, an Israeli military spokesman said: "I'm not aware of such an incident".
