Apple Music's Head Of Hip Hop Programming Carl Chery Leaving For Spotify

Famous music streaming service Spotify makes his debut at Wall Street in New York

Carl Chery, the Hip-Hop programming head of Apple Music, is leaving Apple's music streaming platform for Spotify.

Both Chery and Iovine were first brought into the fold when Apple acquired Beats by Dre.

Apple Music's curated playlists for hip hop has helped introduce new artists to the masses. He is also credited for securing exclusive releases from Chance The Rapper, including the Grammy Award-winning album, "Coloring Book", for Apple Music.

Check CNET on April 24 for complete coverage of the Spotify event. Just a few days ago, Jimmy Iovine ended his time as head of this streaming music service. Basa left Spotify last month after serving the company for three years.

With the departure of Chery, Apple Music appears to be continuously shuffling its team.

Recent news surfaced of a serious loss for Apple Music that will likely affect its performance.

Spotify claims that it benefits the music industry by drawing users away from piracy with its free service tier. Apple Music is now the second in the streaming top, but Spotify is the real ruler.

Soundtrack Your Brand, the Stockholm-based, Spotify-backed streaming platform devoted to background music in the b2b space, has announced a rush of direct deals with labels and publishers as it expands globally and looks to open up an often-overlooked revenue opportunity for rights holders.

On April 24, at an event in New York, Spotify could take a leap in its business structure with the announcement of its first physical product: a player designed for the auto.
