NICK CANNON is "proud" of his ex-wife Mariah Carey for speaking publicly about her bipolar disorder diagnoses.

Mariah suffers from bipolar II disorder, which is characterised by bouts of depression and hypomania, and she now takes medication and has regular therapy sessions to manage her mental health.

She said she is taking medication that "is not making me feel too exhausted or sluggish" and is working on a new album due out later this year.

"Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me", she told People. "It's not making me feel too exhausted or sluggish or anything like that".

The 48-year-old singer posted a smiling photo of herself on Instagram on Saturday, thanking everyone and encouraging them to stay positive. "Mariah Carey and Stella Bulochnikov remain partners in a number of business ventures, and will continue to support each other in those endeavours".
